SALEM, N.H. — It’s been 22 years in the making, but David Peterman is finally opening a Panera Bread Bakery and Cafe in the heart of Salem. The co-owner and franchisee of Panera bakery-cafes across New England was excited Wednesday morning at the grand opening of his newest cafe.
“Salem has prime real estate with good access to the highway, and is a central location,” he said.
He went on to explain Salem was originally planned to be one of his 22 original locations he would open as a franchise owner. He reserved the rights to open the Salem location, but it wasn’t until the Denny’s closed that Peterman would find the perfect spot.
“It hasn’t been available, we wanted to be between there,” he said, pointing towards the intersection with Veterans Memorial Highway, “and the Home Depot. In a visible spot with a drive-thru.
“It was like finally” they found the place, he said with a sigh of relief.
